First Date

I have often dreamt of going on a date with Brad Pitt. Well, now that those dreams have been shattered by Angelina Jolie.
Neil is the next cutest thing on this side of the planet. We went on a date at school farewell party day the first time. It was a bit odd.
I was wearing a sari and felt completely out of my skin. My classmates were sashaying about, pushing their hair with the flick of the hand, walking tall and steadily in their silhouettes. I had never felt the need for long hair or high heels until today. And mom's warning was haunting me 'Don't tear my sari. It's pure silk.'
Tired of flashing plastic smile at the cameras, I took a plate of samosa and settled in a chair at the far corner of the hall. There were tons of chairs with green covers [the same as my sari] and I hoped to blend into the furniture.
While picking out the peas, there was a tap on my shoulder. I turned my head and had a 400 watt smile. Neil had brought slush for both of us.
Neil is from the other division, so we had met only during competitions in opposing teams. I was a bit stunned, but glad to have someone to talk to. We began to discuss how we would miss the pulse of the school campus.
Our streamless talk was interrupted by the school gong. Unnoticed by us, the hall had been emptied while we had been chatting away the evening. With no friends in sight, Neil asked me out for snacks at the nearby café. Hoping none of my classmates would catch me with him, I went in with all my fingers crossed. There was only Appy Uncle, and he was pleased to see us. We sat by the glass panes and watched the cars whiz by, while munching on the Tortillas Uncle had served.
"You look gorgeous today," Neil suddenly said. At first I was stunned, then embarrassed; I didn't know where to look or what to say. He continued, "Actually that's what I remarked when I saw you enter today. I was afraid you would slap me if I told you this in front of everyone."
I squinted my eyes; I was still trying to soak it in. "Thanks for making it such a wonderful date," he beamed his smile again.
Date? Wow! This had been a date? "I hope we can be friends," he said, after a long silence. "Oh, of course!" I replied, breaking out of my spell. "I had not even realised that we were on a date until now."
He laughed, "Well, now you know. So… can I have your number?"
