Baby Steps
Last November, I decided to take serious steps to reduce my weight. The main culprit - chocolates - were banished from my grocery list.
But since I get withdrawl symptoms w/o chocs, I decided that I would eat only chocolates which were gifted to me. This was an equally testing time for my friends and family, who tried not to spoil me rotten-er (I'm quite spoilt already!). Within the first 3 months I lost a good chunk of my weight, without doing much. I didn't give up the good stuff; walked home everyday from office which was about 3.25 km away and ate sinful pizzas once a month instead of once a week. It also helped that I didn't have pals in my new office; so lunch was merely a means to an end.
Seeing the success of that plan, I decided to tighten the reins, and joined an aerobics class this month. Having been an enthusiastic dancer, sometimes being the last one standing, I figured this would be a more fun way to tone up. I had joined a gym once, and that decision was disastrously boring, and I had quit even before the first week was through.
Aerobics however seems to be more fun. The instructor switches music to tune up the pace as we start working out. And there is a lot of dance-like steps, which is fun. But most of all, its a group activity, with variations every 8-16 moves. This makes sure I never zone-out mentally, and am super-alert by the end, fully aware of every muscle in the body (ok, I think this is the aching muscles groaning). I am hoping to do this atleast for a month without getting bored.
