Ticking of a watch
Timeless. I have always wondered what that word signifies. They say that history is timeless. But is it really so? There have been tons of battles which have raged over the ages. History textbooks can’t record each detail. And no one can know enough.
What’s the point? You spend your entire lifetime studying and researching the flaws of your predecessors. And conclude axioms like: History repeats itself, Man is a greedy animal and craves power. Now now, even I could have told you that with the limited knowledge I have gained of History from my books during schooling. Everyone from the humble Shivaji and Gandhi to tormentors like Alexander and Hitler have wasted resources which could have been plugged in for development, instead of issues like race and origin.
A highly scientific study recently showed that men, enjoy watching someone who has wronged them being tortured. Didn’t we already know that? The Arenas in Athens of Ancient Greece and Rome have been witnesses of such cruelty of man. So, either its History or Science. One of the subjects should be declared redundant. If scientists spend months and some even years trying to prove that History was correct in the first place, I think the past should safely be allowed to disintegrate. In that way, the scientists will continue to discover something new and fascinate the world with a path-breaking discovery each time. Beneficial for accruing new grants for that new wing at Oxford University, paper industry for the long thesis which will be written and news value for dailies which have no ‘good news’ to publish.
